Tips For Effective Proofreading

1. Proofread backwards.

2. Know your own typical mistakes.

3. Proofread for one type of error at a time.

4. Try to make a break between writing and proofreading.

5. Proofread at the time of day when you are most alert to spotting errors.

6. Proofread once aloud.

7. Ask someone else to read over your paper

8. Know your own patterns.

9. Use the spell-checker on your computer, but use it carefully, and also do your own spell-checking.

可以使用电脑spell-checker, 但是电脑也会犯一些错误– they might suggest a word that isn’t what you want at all, and they don’t know the difference between there, their, and they’re, for example; 所以你自己也要spell-checking

10. Get help.
